CB550F rear shocks.
« on: April 21, 2014, 06:26:07 PM »
After sitting for a while and finally getting to ride it today, I find out the shocks are almost shot >:l
Rides fine, but they're leaking a bit. May as well replace them.  (they're rusted to hell and very ugly, damn west coast)
Have any of you had any experience with Emgo shocks?
I think my dad said he has this set on his 750 and they work fine but I wouldn't mind a second opinion (especially on the seller)

I have that set, haven't ridden on them yet but have heard from others that they can be a bit stiff. All I can attest to at this point is that they look nice haha, still waiting on a rear wheel distance collar to ride my bike. Good luck, Nicholas

Generally speaking, Emgo makes cheap parts and you get what you pay for.  I'm sure if your going to just putt around at 55 mph, they will be fine.
If you plan any performance riding, I'd suggest getting some better quality shocks such as Progressive, Ikon or Hagons.  I also need to upgrade the shocks on my 550, I think I'm going with the Hagons at $200.

Looking at shocks, and interested in the Hagon's, how much did they run you guys shipped?

There's also the Progressive 12 series on 4into1.com but I'm unsure.

Depends on the rider. Easy goer, just get your EMGO's and save 100$. If you want better than stock, want to ride aggressive, like the idea of a shock set for weight and style spend the money. Each shock does have its place

For my money in either case I don't see the progressives as worth it. They are half measures for the price of a full measure(Hagons)

So Dave Quinn makes Hagons in 310 and 335mm with the fork bottom for our bikes. I'm guessing 335 would be the closest?

EDIT: Would I be able to run the 310s and lower the front a hair to even it out?

have you guys bought from davequinnmotorcycles.com?
Im just weary about giving my credit card information over the internet or phone. They unfortunately don't do paypal.

I had Dave Quinn do my set up for my 550f. Just call him. Tell him your info for height weight and how you plan to ride. He will get them perfect.
