CB550 harness cb500 elec. Starter motor safety
« on: June 14, 2014, 04:06:46 AM »
Through an act of gross stupidity I literally burned up the wiring harness on the 500. I have a 550 harness laying around so I switch that over. Everything was good until I get to the starter motor safety unit. I get some advice on how to bypass it by . I can make a jumper from Green-Red to Green at the red block before the starter safety unit.
The problem is there is no Green-Red coming from the starter button. On the 550 you have a Red-Yellow and a Green-Red connecting to the starter motor safety unit from the starter button. On the 500 controls there is just a Red-Yellow.

Help an electrical idjit, please

Yes that's the one. There is also no clutch operated switch on the 500. At least from I can see when comparing 500 and 500 diagrams

If I take the red/yellow and bypass the safety unit and go straight to the starter relay would that resolve the issue?

I've got continuity in the circuit up to the start button, but I'm at a loss of how to check a single wire start button.

Having my celebratory cigar. The starter button works!!!! The corrosion in there was frightening. Of course I lost and found the spring at least 3 times while doing this. I really need to remember to get my part holder out sometime. Yes, I'm a bozo. but a boze with a working start button!!

HOORAH!

Nah, there are more problems. It's leaking massively from the oil pump, I need to go through the top end and find the oil seepage, then rebuild the most simple front brake in the world. Parts will be here Friday. In a few weeks my son should take his maiden ride/fall on the bike.
I can't wait, it's gonna be a blast.
