Primary Chain Tensioner
« on: June 20, 2014, 09:00:53 AM »
Hey guys got a question about Primary Chain Tensioner.
been doing some reading and have found some people talking about replacing the tensioner while you have the engine open, for a better more reliable one. well I am doing a full rebuild on my cb750, reborded to 849cc new cam and other little things. but was wondering if  there is any good reason to replace the tensioner if its still in good shape. have been looking at the cycleX Tensioner they sell.

I used the cycle x tensioner.  Its a nice unit.  I didnt trust 35+ year old plastic that could disintegrate....

Is the jury still out on CycleX tensioner? These are pretty much 'field tested'. Who has real experience with these and how many miles have you put on it before tearing back into your engine to check it out?

While a new Honda tensioner would have softer rubber (may feel like plastic after 35 years) and possibly a stiffer spring, if your's is doing it's job and is intact why not reuse it?!
