winter car tires

Ok, I know there are some Canadian Miscreants on here who should have
some good advice on this subject.  :)

What are some of the better snow and ice tires y'all have used?

I'm looking for a set to put on a fwd car I have to use as a part getter
since the price of gas has got me to conserving the truck usage.

My Trailblazer gets crappy milage too.  I'm thinking of getting some studded tires on my 550 and running it all winter.

I've used some Kelleys, I can't remember the model but they were open tread, louder than the original Goodrich OEM but they were pretty good in the snow.

The first one that comes to mind is the Michelin X Ice. Its a softer compound but its one of the better ones out there.. Same with the Bridgestone Blizzack. If you were canadian i would say go with some Nokian WRs..they are an awesome all weather tire. However...they are exclusive to Finland and Canada only. Main reason being they are Exclusive to Kal tire and Kal tire is in canada only. But yea the Michelin or the Bridgestone would be good tires.

You do mean snows for your car, right? ;)

I like my Blizzaks (on my Acura).  Others will differ; however, I've never been happy with Michelins since they shifted their focus to the OEM market.    I am amused by the latest Michelin commercial.  At the end the announcer seems to say, "the best performing tire in its class."  What the announcer really says is, "our best performing tire in its class."

I have Michelin X-Ice on my Toyota Echo - excellent even for a such light-weight car. Works perfect on snow and open ice. Expensive a bit...

I can't help it upperlake, I was bit by a possum as a young kid :)

Blizzaks seem to get a high rating on Tire Rack, I'm a bit disappointed with the last
Michelin tires we had. Really deadly in the rain. Maybe I could get upperlake to buy
some nokians and ship them to me :) (Please keep them away from Canadian beef :))

Has anyone tried the Pirrelli Snow Carver?

I run the Bridgestone Blizzaks on my '99 Crown Victoria. I tried them last winter (2005-2006) here in NW Pennsylvania and they performed better than I expected. Additional weight in the trunk is always needed for traction because of the rear wheel drive. For a non-studded winter tire they are a good bet and I'll be re-using them again this winter.

Dunlop Wintersport SP's are the best that I've had. We get a lot of snow here in Cleveland, and I love the set that I have.

These are the best tires you can buy for winter driving. If you can find them. A worn out pair did better on slick snow than a new set of Michleans. http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/com/en/gislaved/automobile/general/home/index_en.html

Michelin Ice X (the wife won a complete set from Costco last year!) mounted on a separate set of rims. They worked well last winter. I used Dunlop something-or-other winter radials before on my car and they were fine.

I think any winter specific tyre should do the job. Hakkapalita's are supposed to be the dogs danglies to those in the know.....

Those euro tires look like they would do the trick. Wish some were available here.
I like those euro frost.

Haks are nice tires but i would rather run the all season WR...then again i cant justify having multi sets of tires for cars lol

I also ran Blizzak's on my FWD Talon for the winter months.  They were the best tire out 3-4 years ago, and I'm sure they have come up with some sort of technological advancements to keep them ahead of the game.  I had them for 3 winters no problems.

Plus I like saying BLIZZAK!
Yo, Check out my Blizzaks on my Whizzip, Bizziacth! :D
