I want to say thanks SteveD CB500F for compiling the The Thoughts of Hondaman.  This post contains so much info Hondaman you should publish it!!!

Ok on to my real question: As per one of the post by Hondaman I would like to lower my bike by adding 12” shocks: what does the board thing is a fair price for new? And what if I can find them on e-bay might expect to pay?

Also any thoughts on different manufactures?

At 11" do worry about the bike being too Low. Pipes scraping and such

I dont canyon-carve my bike or anything , but I can scrape the pipe when I want to scrape it.
My bike sits real low becasue of the 11'' shocks along with the switch toa 16'' rear wheel.
Low =  in my opinion

When you lowered the rear did you do the same to the front by pushing the fork tube out the top of the trees?

Yup - about 2'' thru the top

Just loosen both the upper and lower triple tree bolts and push the shocks up.
On mine I cut 1 1/2" off of the front springs and pushed the forks up 1" for a total of 2 1/2" lower front and rear.

dude i just creamed my pants.... that is almost the identical look i was goin for with my 550.... now i know i will love my bike even more when i get it together.

It`s easier to do if the front wheel is off, then you can 1 fork at a time, just make sure you support it good. After you loosen the bolts all you have to do is twist the fork while pushing up.

As said just loosen the triple-tree bolts and you are set.
I just rolled the bike forward a bit and clamped down on the front brake with the bolts
loose, which in turn put force on the triple-tree , which in turn pushed the fork tubes up thru
the trees. Just make sure when you do this that both sides are equal, as far as you have the same amount on both sides
sticking thru the top tree...

If you ride the thing and like the ride, you could always get a set of tubes made that exact length for a super clean look..
