Hey Tim, that exhaust is looking good there guy!

Just from what I've seen in the pictures that you've recently posted, that is going to be quite a TOUGH LOOKING BIKE!

Well it doesn't seem to be a problem with other bikes of the scrambler type.

Obviously heat in the 1+4 is to be avoided as is boiling the bowls lol.

Worst case I wrap them with header tape....I've found a source for some sick wrap....

Ceramic coating is also an option and probably the hardest wearing lowest maintenance.

I've been thinking of squishing them oval after the cylinder head bend....would make them thinner across.

I have some 750 heat shields off a rusted set of pipes that I may try and incorporate for a little historical flair.

I need to do the rearsets next before i figure out where to run the pipes

THe way it looks like your trying to tuck in the exhaust to keep it away from your legs is why
I mentioned it because the carbs on the 4's seem to angle out more and your pipes are probably going to be quite close to the bowls is all. Probably won't be a problem when your moving but sitting still may cause a problem? Your exhaust looks very interesting. Will be watching your progress. What kind of pipe are you using, mild steel !!

That's going to look alot like the BSA/Triumph scramblers and I really like that look. The inline 4 really makes it hard to come up with a new style pipe but yours will be different and refreshing.Now just finding the right mufflers!! To bad you will probably have to have shields, as they will take away from your design some. I'm not crazy about the look of wrapping the pipes, but I wonder if there is some kind of paint/coating that would work/help???

Yeah, I think those pipes will be quite the item!

My own thoughts would be a set of short megaphones and, if you shape the pipes slightly oval, you could do the megaphones that way too! Just my own opinion, you know. Don't know what kind of wrapping you are considering but, I was wondering about some kind of smallish shields (if you need something to keep the heat down to the carbs and your legs). I'm thinking kinda like ekim about the exhaust wrap taking away from the look of those cool pipes. Of course, the choice IS up to you, I know. Just some thoughts.

I figure its gonna take abou $100 bucks worth of tubing (mild steel)

So even if ceramic is a couple hundred more I'm money ahead

coating inside and out not only help things run cooler BUT the exhaust heat is held inside the pipe rather than radiating out into the air, the hotter the exhaust gasses are, the faster they move out of the pipe.

Yes....right up to the rubber snubber plus a wee bit.

In the first pic there you can see the shock body minus the spring...up against the rubber.

For those who are wondering how I got the tubes to fit the spigots....

I made a Die from one of the spigots...

Beveled and smoothed the start. Then drove the pipe over it.

Cut it off and welded it on the appropriate end piece.

i see two very interesting options w/ the pipes... since they are so incredibly high

1. wrap them inside the motor and exit on the opposite side. very cool.

2. wrap them over the stator and points covers, hugging the lines of the motor, and slam the outlet straight into the ground off the back edge of the covers.

you gonna tell us what you had in mind?

Well I have to build the rear sets and clear them.

Plus I have to clear the kick starter.

My oil tank is gonna start where the plastic fender used to be....so I hate to go thru the middle.....

What I need to do is get my hands on one of the R90 BMW mufflers...I believe the bend on that particular muffler will be just what I need to clear the rear shock if its rotated about 90 degrees.

Baring that I was going to roll out some reverse megaphones with a cut out to go around the shock.

Tim, This bike is so AWESOME, I just don't know where to start. The gastank, THOSE PIPES, the front end, the brakes, the list just goes on and on. This bike IS going to be "ONE COOL RIDE". I'm looking to see where you go from here too!

I agree that what ever you do to finishj it off, is gonna be cool! I am hoping for megaphones myself. I've just always thought that they set an exhaust system off. Just my opinion.

You are flat doing that build up in a great way Tim.

Thanks....got sidetracked on a the CB400 project (had to have it ready for a show) and then the CBX...

But the oil tank is under construction.

Once thats in I can do the rest.

Found some cool cans for the pipes.
