1976 GL1000
« on: September 29, 2006, 02:39:48 AM »
I found a 1976 GL1000 GOldwing with full fairing, trunk and bags, bumpers, radio floorboards loaded, only 40,000 miles for $800, am I crazy or is this deal unreal? he says the only problem is that one of the valves is flooding when running...my guess is a carb rebuild one Sat morning would fix that up.  the only cosmetic i can see is a spot on the tank  near the seat where the PO drug his'her bot when getting off once

I think i must have to buy it as soon as possible, as the bidding ends in 16 hours

even if you got it for $800, and its a bit tied, you could part it on ebay and make more than that... just a thought....

Are you figuring on keeping it loaded, if you can get it or will you build something similar to
what kghost (and some others elsewhere on the web) did? If you're going to build it, you might
ebay the excess stuff (fairing, bags, etc) and get some of your money back. Just a thought.
           Good Luck with your quest.

40,000 is bugger all for a well maintained motor. In NZED that price would be called a bargain.

40,000 is alot of miles.

nah, 40K on a GL1000 isnt that much... probably about time to change the timing belts, though... my father has a '76 with 50K--- starts right up WITH NO CHOKE (!) even if it has been sitting a few days... no smoke, etc, and still makes a wad of power (and boy do those slip-ons sound good)... recently had the fuel pump go bad, but that was an easy fix...
a good friend of mine has an '84 with 150K... also starts right up, with no smoke, etc... obvioulsy, the bike is maintained regularly...

40 isnt anything if the oil was changed. I have 70 on mine and all the guy's around here say its just getting broken in. They say there good for 150,000 :)
I would jump on it. There great bikes.

Yup,
belts, that should be the first piece of mind fix. If you break a belt you can cause major damage. Good luck on it, there great bikes. I have an early 75 model. Looking for another to customize. want to keep this original.

73,000 on my f1 and no internal problems at all - maybe the clutch is getting close.  Seems to me that mileage isn't nearly as important as the bike's relationship with it's PO.

There is a lot of interest in those early 'Wings, especially if everything is original. I'd take off all of the non-Honda paraphernalia and get it back as close to original as possible.

Tell the fiance that it keeps you home and out of the barsĀ  ;D

If that fails tell her its an investmentĀ  ;)

oN THE OTHER hand the PLasma TV would keep me out of bars, (as would my alergy to alcohol)

I have already used the "investment" line to get this 76 CB750

Its all good, I didnt really need it anyway and i would have had to go 9 hours one way to pick it up anyway
