Speedo drive spins wrong way - need help
« on: September 20, 2014, 10:26:15 AM »
My bike is a '76 CB750F1 with Comstars from a 77/78 bike.  I believe the speedo drive would have originally been on the right side, but the Comstar has the disc brake and the speedo drive on the same side.  From pictures I've seen, the speedo drive on the 77/78 bikes has the speedo drive on the left side.

My problem is that the cable is spinning the wrong way.  Did the 77/78 bikes with the speedo drive on the left have a different drive?

Here's my set up.

I thought all speedos spun the same way.  For instance, Dime City sells a bunch of speedos but there is no reference to the way they spin.  In other words, there's no left hand and right hand version for each model.

Per the Honda parts fiche, the same speedo was used on '77 and '78 K and F bikes.  The best I can tell, the bikes with wire  wheels had the speedo drive on the right and those with the Comstars and a single disc had it on the left.

As far as I'm aware all the speedo drives for these bikes spin in a clockwise direction when you're looking at the end of the cable. They will be different drives from left to right to achieve this. ;D
