'77 cb550: what carb jets for pod filters and MAC exhaust
« on: August 19, 2009, 07:18:03 AM »
Does anyone have this combination of pod filters (if brand matters what do you have?) and a MAC 4 into 1 exhaust that can tell me what jets my carbs need?  Also any other setting for the carbs such as needle position?  Thanks

Great!  You also have the '77 carbs and with the MAC 4-1 and Emgo filters, you run 105 jets with everything else stock?  Thanks a lot.

Yes, that's it.  However, I'm not the only person you should thank.  Lots' of other people contributed help and advice to that jetting project, most of all TT.

You have a 77 K or F model?  You have PD carbs or the earlier style?

Its a '77 K.  I am not sure which carbs I have.  How can I tell?

Heres the best pic I can find of the carbs before I rebuilt them.

those are PD carbs. It says on the side just above the bowl. Im running Foam filters and a kerker. Im jetted at 110s i think and stock needle location. Runs ok but i think i can get it better. Im going to do a plug chop but my guess is im going to have to raise the needle a notch.

the needle is in the 2nd from the bottom position.
Dyna ing.

runs pretty good.
although i think i need to have my speedo calibrated.
it said i was doing 105 mph yesterday. and it didn't feel like it.

For what it's worth - I have a 77 550K, mac 4-1, not sure what brand pods, but I currently run 97.5 jets, and that is still a bit rich - I will be putting in 95s soon.

MMTsquid, go to #90 mains like Hondaman suggests. It made a big difference for my 550.

No They are are Keihin early style or Type 1.  Each carb body mount flange should have a number stamped top right.  627B, 022A, 069A, 087A, etc.
These number announce the specific internal set up and components used from the factory.
