Cleaning the engine cb750 1978
« on: October 03, 2014, 07:59:09 PM »
All, cleaning the engine and getting stuck on the fins. How do you clean them enough to paint them? Grease seems like it cannot be cleaned out! I am not taking the engine apart.

I used acetone and Q-tips. Can be time consuming but worth the effort.

ZEP Purple Commercial cleaner/de-greaser. 50/50 w/ water in a spray bottle.
an assortment of plastic bristled brushes.  long and short, to get in all the small spots.
rinse with water and then wipe down with acetone.

I like paint thinner and brass/ stainless brushes, cuts the crud instantly , brushes clean the paint off. Rinse with paint thinner,  shoot  with compressed air. All clean.

Great idea and excellent results!

Go buy a .30 cal cleaning kit, some solvent, and get to brushing!

Guido what did you put in the carb holes when painting? Did you ball up paper or something or simply cover the holes with tape?

Just mask it well with tape.  Ball up a paper towel first if you're worried.

Attention, steel brushes, not copper or brass, those leave a layer of material not paintable.
And if you are lazy you can apply to a variable speed drill. get ruined but cost little
The collectors were filled with paper and secured with tape to the bodywork.
