Who has replaced rear wheel bearings - CB500?
« on: October 16, 2014, 02:38:14 PM »
I'm replacing the original bearings in my 1972 CB500.  I can't seem to figure out the tabs used to keep the spacers positioned when you remove the axle.  They got slightly mangled when I removed the bearings and I need some advice as to the proper positioning of the tabs (see my attached photos).  If anybody has a photo, that would be very helpful.

Thanks for your help!

Looks OK to me and I've replaced bearings on front and rear wheels on a "72 CB500 and I believe the 3 prongs are to rest against the centre race of the bearing

I always open those double sealed bearings and change the grease. They come with a small amount of grease because they are also used in electric motors that turn 1600 RPM. We need more wheel bearing type grease for lower RPM and higher loads. Dan

It's funny as I was advised by a mechanic leave them as they have been pre-packed with grease and they'll be ok.
Sometimes it's hard to figure out who's right.
