400SS SCORE! again.
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:18:33 PM »
Dang, a buddy sent me a facebook  link to a 400 super sport near here. I'm not on that for sale page and can't respond until I'm approved. I sent a PM to the seller saying I'd bring the cash sight unseen. I saw pics and it looks sweet.

"Been there done that"  My advice to you is if you do have an Honest interest in the bike, MOVE ON IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE  as in NOW or it will be gone. I don't know how many times I've seen something and thought I'ld go look at it when I "Got" a chance only to lose out (already gone by then) :( ! GO NOW ! Recently I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 1974 cb750 for $550. As soon as I saw the ad I texted the guy saying "I'm interested", he didn't respond right away, so a couple of hours later I shot him another text (he said in the that he preferred texts). Again he didn't respond right away, so 'bout an hour later I Called him. He said he had received a number of calls about it. I said that I was really interested and would like to come see it. He ask tonight or tomorrow? I said right now and could be there in 45 minutes. He said come on ! Needless to say I'm the new owner of a 1974 cb750K with 15,887 miles on the odometer, with 4>2 crossover pipes, king/queen style seat and a couple of other goodies !! Plus since I was talking cash Now I got it for $500! WooHoo ! So like I said if your interested go NOW !   ...cougar...

+1

I took a several hour drive and missed out on a $50 400f because of a miscummunication. :-X

Another cb450 I was out of town and even sent a pay pal for just from the pics, but the guy cashed out before I get there.

+1  Go now.
Let a $1600 sandcast slip thru my hands because I was at work. A week, and a bath later, it sold on ebay for about $7k.
It was a mess, but it had the right numbers  >:(

I don't have the address! I've said sold! Said I'll take it, I offered cash, Sent PM's, left my phone number on a public forum and a PM. Jeez, maybe I'll hire a private detective. what more can I do? Maybe I'll go to the town and drive around.
I did get approved on the site and can now post, which I did.

I dogged it until I sealed the deal, owner was at work and the guy ahead of me had to work overtime. She's a little crusty but Im thinking a bath will make a world of difference. It was always kept in a heated walkout room in the basement. Needs a clutch cable, headlight bucket and a few parts.  It appears to have 750 handlebars on it.
There are 3 cushmans in the basement too. I'm going back.

Congrats Don.   Is it titled ? or does that not matter in Illinois?.   I have a spare bucket or two. There are aftermarket repro handlebars for 40-I can send you the link if you're interested.  You'll need all cables if you swap to original..Larry

Yep, I'd put the original bars back for sure, the clutch cable is missing anyway. It seems to have all the gears and has good bones but she's a wee bit more crusty in the daylight.  I'm shifting from resto to cafe style in my thought process. First plan to remove everything ugly, rusty or bent. Those huge signals are just too much even though I have new ones.

This just in, my wife threw a leg over it and can flat foot it. She said well, happy birthday to me and went in the house. hmmm. So, the straightened and polished  turn signals are already back on, my how my plans can change. She likes the too tall handlebars. Not sure if I can leave that alone.

Don R ; Absolutely SUPER Coool that you got the bike !!! It's yours now and you can do anything you and your wallet want :) ! I traded for a red 76cb400F-SS a couple of years ago (no title, but wanted it for the motor anyway). Although it was kind of rough appearance wise I might have a couple of parts if you need them, just keep us posted somewhere. And super cool your wife can flat foot on it, that's one of my wife's pet-peeves about a bike as well.   ...cougar...

I found another 400F advertised in the same place and located about a mile from the last one. I still have money from the sale of my cb750F burning a hole in my pocket. So, I bought it. pic in project shop.

It's crazy sometimes how things work. I really like the kid I got it from too. Too bad he needed the money, I'd have helped him keep it. He just didn't know about you guys.

A third 400 showed up on the local facebook for sale page, this one however is an 80 400T. The chrome looks nice but the paint's not so pretty. I might let this one slide.
