I once found a Honda 2.2 hp motor off of a WB15 water pump. The oil was gray, but after a couple flush/run cycles, the moisture is gone, It also puffs a tiny bit of blue at start up, but runs fine. I still have it, although I still don't know what to do with it. It's got a weird tapered shaft

Hey Dave, a tip for welding thick to thin, like the rebar to the generator frame, is to preheat the thick piece with a propane torch. It only has to be hot enough to sizzle spit to make a big difference.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

thanks scottly thanks for the tip! I do have a propane torch,i struck the arc on the rebar away from the thin stuff, then once it was boiling away sort of dragged it over toward the square steel, didnt do too bad,it aint no show pony generator!,im happy enough to be able to actually stick two bits of steel together!ive tried snapping those rebars off and no chance, ugly but solid.

Seems like many  lawn mowers are all the same, branded different. My huskvarna is  Honda powered, I think many poulan are a copy of the same..

don't laugh a few years ago I pulled a cb500 motor and an xr75 motor and some old yammy two stroke road bike motor out of one of our bins!it was at a school end of year art and craft clean out,all old woodwork and metal work scrapped projects,im guessing the motors were destined for sectioning up?that was my first 500!

Find an old mini bike frame and a centrifical clutch and let the kids try to kill it.

I need a generator like that to run a few small(one 6' flourescent & a bench grinder,Dremel, etc.  alternately)things in my 10'x20' storage locker that i work out of part time. Nice find Dave  8) it must be nice when the yards will let you 'have a look around',they won't do that anymore here last time I checked... either that or the yard workers want to keep all the good stuff for themselves  ::)

would've been perfect for that, shipping would've killed the deal though!im a dumpster truck driver!we can keep what ever we find in our bins, its also an "unwritten law"that we can scrounge around to some extent within a few yards of our truck when we empty the bin at the dump,we use a few different dumps and some are tighter than others on rules, the trick is to always get friendly with any of the machine operators and other workers etc, they stash stuff to one side and if I see something I want I ask if anyone has laid claim to that?mostly they say just take it!so long as you ask its fine,if you just take something set aside its stealing!i also collect copper wire/brass etc.

I think it's great that you're saving good useable items from the crushers;being a driver must be the best way to lay claim to some of those pieces.

That 'planned obsolescence' and  the phrase 'going out of style' never did seem to make much sense to me;the 'new and improved' stuff isn't much better than the basic stuff we've always had except for just a few more bells and whistles.
I like the 'tried and true' good old things that have worked well for years, you know ?
the older stuff that can be repaired and rebuilt over and over again,if only you can get the parts...  ::) That's the challenge of it  :)  Dave,if you can't find the original parts you improvise, huh? Why not ?!!  ;) Like I said before it's good to see you saving Good stuff from the crusher  8)
