CB550f2 transmission compatibility
« on: October 24, 2014, 03:33:14 AM »
Hi guys,
I need your help for my 1977 550f2. The transmission is gone, so I'm searching for a used replacement transmission.

Is it fully compatible with all 550 four models? I mean with 550f1 and f0, and also with all the 550 "k" models? Are they the same?

More in general, talking about the engine, are there any difference between the 550f2 and the other "f" models? And are there any with 550 "k" models?

Thank you!

Brilliant! Thank you Calj and Dave.

And what about the whole engine? Are there any difference inside?

Thank you!

later 550s had an improvement to the rocker shaft design, instead of 8 shorter ones they used four longer ones which were pinned to stop the shaft itself rotating causeing wear in the head, the 550s also had a clutch upgrade early on,all the parts will swap into any 550.

So, if I want to buy an engine complete for parts for my 1977 550f2 super sport, it doesn't matter whether it's from a 550 "k" or a 550 "f" super sport, and it doesn't matter the year, it just must come from a 550 because they are just the same.
Can you confirm it?

In particular, Dave, do you know from which year the rocker shaft changes? And when you talk about the clutch upgrade, do you refer to 550 "f"?

Thank you

550s are all the same,i don't know the exact year on the shaft and clutch improvements,a search through motogrid would sort it.

Verify what model you have. Consult the Parts Lists and you can't go wrong.
