2 + 2 + 4 = 3 (Wisconsin)
« on: November 28, 2014, 08:55:51 PM »
Hi everyone. Im an 18 year old DJ, Music Producer, and engine lunatic from West Bend, Wisconsin. The reason for joining this forum is because of the new lady, the '78 CB750k. Previous members in the family include a 73 CB350 which I turned into a cafe racer, and an adopted barn find '76 CB200T with 3600 original miles, which i got for a 4 pack of monster because a friend of a friend of a friend saw my 350 build. the 200 will stay unmolested.

The 750, which is in the picture above was parked in running condition from a close friend's father about 20 years ago when they moved into their new house. it sat behind the shed along with retired dishwashers and concrete rubble. I bought it with a title knowing it was a big project with a seized engine for $150. The title and frame was worth that. Well just last Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving I stripped her apart, with the intention to rebuild the engine over the winter. This intro is beginning to sound like a project thread  :-\ oh well.

My intention with this bike is to build a cafe racer, with a very clean, simplistic look. I intend to relocate the oil tank, and all electronics and spend a considerable amount of time running wire and cable through frame tubing. Due to the time intensive task of dropping the motor I am considering designing the bottom frame half to drop out of the bike, as I intend to modify the engine over time, to be able to feel the changes and understand what I like and don't like. I *want (unsure if plausable) to reconstruct the upper spine after the headstock to follow the contour of the false fiberglass tank/body combo i want to fab, and mount a 2 section aluminum tank that I will fab with one section oil and one part gas. I hope to fit the electronics in the empty spaces around there, as well as in the butt stop in the rear. It also must be passenger compatible.

Welcome.  Sounded like you're in for cutting up the frame.  Few members here on the forums make frame kit for that purpose when you need to open up engine without dropping off the frame.

Any links? Also this would be for the lower part of the frame, im unsure of if the tubing diameter is the same as on top

Oh...all the kits I have seen are for top of frame, not lower http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=142092

Yea I bet I could find something to work. the idea I have is to unbolt the top mount in the back of the engine, and the lower frame tubes will unbolt by the footpegs and the head tube, and the whole engine can be lowered out with just unhooking linkages and electronic plugs.

Welcome Wurst: I really like sound of that idea;I already have a frame kit but I'm going to hold off installing it until I see what you do;I might repurpose mine.

That 76 CB200T looked like that when you got it without throwing money at it? Just a gave it a bath?

Good Luck!

The 200 just took steel wool, windex and rags. Electrolysis in the tank and a new battery. Oh and it was missing a petcock. Filled the tank and pop started it with some injector cleaner and off she went! It has a really cool sound to it.
