Blimey! It's a long time since I was a forum Newbie
« on: October 05, 2006, 11:27:30 AM »
As the title says I'm new here.

I'm from the north west of England, and after 15 years of thinking about it I've just bought my first bike!

She's a '78 CB550K :) and runs & rides as sweet as anything There is the odd area where she's going to need a bit of TLC however, mainly in the chromeware dept. As this is my first venture into the realms of two-wheeled ownership the chances are I'll be asking a fair few questions over the next few months ::)

The weather over here is beyond terrible at the moment, so unfortunately it may be a while before I can get some pictures taken  :-\

Welcome! All of these bikes need TLC, and we're the ones who give it. Ask lots of questions, but try searching the site first. Many times the questions can be answered before you ask.

Hope the weather clears up, looking forward to the pics.  :D

Welcome to the board.
This is without a doubt the best site for in-depth knowledge on these bikes.

Speaking of newbies, does anyone know what the number of posts needed to move up the ranks???

Yummy.  Crispy Duck.

We've a handful of active members in the NW.

Check out samCR750 and Biffta

I guess your real name isn't "abp maintenance"...   PM me your details and we'll add you to the UK members mailing list.  We're a select bunch.  8)

Welcome crispduk - weather has turned dire down here in the south east as well, however this forum will keep you entertained and informed while watching the rain run down the windows :)
Good luck with the bike - there is an amazing depth of knowledge here so you should have no problems if you run into trouble with it.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I assumed with the site being a .us one there wouldn't be many UK members, I was obviously wrong:)

Steve, you have a PM, you're quite right, that isn't my name it's my company, abp stands for Anything But Plastering, which sums up what we do:)

Rhonda, feel free to whore yourself on my first thread to your heart's content 8)

There are over 50 UK members (some more active than others, and some just tooo far away (GeoffT in Orkney))

Down here (W London / Thames Valley) there are 10-12 who regularly meet up and visit Box Hill, Ace Cafe etc.

We had a run out to Santa Pod (Northants) a few weeks back and met up with samCR750 (what a bike - see gallery)

We do the VJMC meet and are planning to come up to Stafford for the great Bonhams auction (Jim Redman's racebike) - we'll probably come in the car though as 350 miles in standard October weather doesn't thrill me...)

Thanks, I've been here a while now, but only just sorted the pics out :)

Got big plans for the bike when I get back home, kinda cafe style. I've already got a Guilliari seat, some 5" drop tomaselli bars and a second front brake for it. Just need to sort out some new rims & decide what kind of exhaust I want now, the factory ones are definitely going, they are too bulky, and a pita to keep clean >:(

I've bought a second tank & some side covers too, as my plan involves it being bright red, with no badges. The paint on the original tank & covers is to good to ruin, so they will go into storage in case I ever want to return the bike to standard.
