Instrument Light Board ???
« on: October 06, 2006, 05:01:09 PM »
To start off with ProTeal55 I hope you take it as flattery that I use your scoot as my example.

What is the real name of this Item?

This is what I have:

This is what I want:

What years/types-K,F… do I need to look for?

And on a side question: ProTeal55, notice no baffle in your Mac’s. Just how loud is it?

Thanks everyone,
Buck

I do not know the exact name, but that is what was on my 76 550 before I modified it. Not sure what I have left of it but will look.

That's the idiot light panel off a '74-'76 550K as a minimum, and the same for a couple of 750 too.  I believe F's had your 'triangular' panel, and the later models as well.  You'll find some wiring differences in the turn signal is a single lamp, not the dual's you have, but if you can work around the schematic, it shouldn't matter too much.  I see them on e-buy pretty much all the time.  I have it on mine, and replaced the lamps with LED's. VERY bright now.

My '73 CB500 has the square one, too. I just bought a whole extra assembly for like $13.00 (to the door) on feeBay a few weeks ago - its just like the one on my '73 but came off a '72. The auction called them 'indicator lights assembly' - the Honda factory parts manual I have, refers to all the different parts individually and doesn't have a name for the whole assembly. The Clymer manual just calls them the 'indicator lights'.

I am in the habit of calling them 'idiot lights' from my dad.  . .lol. . .. he has a real disdain of lights in place of where gauges should be (he's all into classic muscle cars).

To change it all you will need the top tree and "idiot" light cluster complete and you will need to modify the loom to fit an earlier type ignition switch that you will probably have to mout on an aftermarket re-location bracket for the early 500/750. After all this you will no longer have a "steering" lock which means yoy would not get a registration in the UK.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Mine is a 76k, and it came with it.  My 82 CB900 came with a "dash" like you have.  As for making it work with what you have, I'm not sure, it just mounts as the handlebar clamp. This is what mine looks like after a little modification.  And yes it works.  Good luck

Buck,
I'd be interested in your old light cluster when you change it.  Mines kinda cocked up.  Let me know what you need, when you are ready.
