I need inspiration/ideas
« on: November 23, 2014, 12:32:53 PM »
Any of you fellas good with Photoshop?
Usually, by this point in my builds I have a pretty good idea of what kind of paint job I want, what color, stripes, etc. This one is leaving me scratching my head. I'm still waiting for the light bulb to go off (on?).

There's just the tank, seat, headlight and possibly that front fender. The headlight is a plastic dirt bike headlight and I'll probably end up painting it with vinyl/plastic paint since it has to flex a little to even be mounted. Probably just black.

I know I want something....different. Something that says mean, sinister, speed, etc. Or hell, maybe I want multi-color flake? I just don't know.
The H.A. wheels have been powder coated and have a satin or semi-gloss look to them. A satin black finish with some subtle stripes on  the bodywork seems easy, but it's a little too obvious.
Care to offer some suggestions or ideas?

And one showing the headlight assembled:

Looking good. I like those wheels.

I think you may have the fender mounted back to front. It's the subtleties that can change the way you view a bike.

IIWM I wouldn't go with that headlight, and I'd change out the brake master cylinder for one a little less industrial looking.

I'm probably not the best one to give a view about color schemes - I tend to reach for black every time!

I *think* the fender is right as it has a lip on the rear, shorter section.

I like balsa wood planes as much as the next guy but, there isn't goin to be enough lift with this design.  This looks like another case of "I'll read the instructions if I get stuck."

Scott, I like the gloss  black idea, I also like the color blue on the fender as an additional color. topped of with multicolor flake, then a high gloss poly.
Not wild about the endure headlight though.

Hey Scott....I'm seeing Candy Apple Red for this bike but may not give it the mean, sinister look you are going for.

You want mean then use a lighter color for the tank, covers and tail then use black for the engine fork legs and swingarm, black on light colors looks tough....

For example....

750 F1 970cc
750 Bitsa 900cc

It is KZ650 inspired and it is handmade, but not by me. Mitch at Vulgar Cycles made that for me.

I sorta like that stock tank stripe on a much modified bike cuz your rarely see it..
But with a non stock color maybe..

I think the balsa wood thing is a pattern for a turbo or blower manifold..nicely done. If he changed it to Weber carb mount, he could probably sell a few..

That HOK Galaxy Grey remind me of some of the satin colors Triumph is using on the Scrambler and Street Triple models. Something I've been considering.

754, Great Call! That is a great manifold. Problem is, I've never tried my hand at casting. Would it matter much that it's a "log" type manifold and I'm not boosting the bike right yet.

Whoever made the the pattern, huge amount of work, love the ribs on it.
Get them to cast an extra, and not machine. The backside. Then the mll off the flangeand weld an aluminum plate set up for the Weber.. Bit of porting...and presto single Weber on your bike..

The first attempt didn't come out flat enough. The pictures make it look really shiny, but it wasn't. Not flat enough to be flat, and not shiny enough to be shiny. It just looked like a #$%*ty paint job in person.

Tried again and sanded down the matte clear. This time, they added a second flattening agent to the the matte clear and nailed it. This is just what I was looking for.
It's hard to photograph, but it has a slight sheen to it. It's flat but not dull. Some of the metallic elements in the paint still shine under certain light. It's a really cool effect.
