Spark Plugs - Resistor or Non-Resistor (Canadian Model)
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:20:15 PM »
I've got a 77 CB750A in Canada.  Wondering if anyone knows why the Canadian Model came with DR8ES-L plugs?  The US models came with non-resistor plugs.  Would they really have changed the plug caps for the Canadian models?  Is there any way to tell if the plug caps are resistor or non-resistor?  What would you recommend running with?

Cheers

I have no idea why the Canadian model would be different than U.S. model, but you can check the plug caps with an ohm meter to check resistance.

Thanks Paul.  Did some resistance testing.  The stock plug caps have about 5 ohms resistance and DR8ES plugs have about 4 ohms resistance.  No reason to run both I guess.  Gonna go with D8EA's.

Stikman, I always order my plugs direct from NGK.  I see that they have your plug for $2.89

I think you mean 5K ohms not 5 ohms on the caps and the plugs are usually the same resistance, if they have an R designation. It seems the general thought is there isn't really an issue with the dual resistance from both sources. If you have a chance to use the D8ES or L if available in non resistor, that would be my personal choice. It really is meant for radio interference suppression, so not really needed on these old bikes.

The L designation is for a half a heat range cooler I believe and is between a DR8ES and a DR9ES from what I can see on the NGK site.
