I was able to hit some of the rust down on the pipe with some scotchbrite pads and WD40.
In hindsight I should not have used WD40 because I do think I will paint the pipe.

Pipe really will clean up well.  I see no major dents or damage.
Does not look like it was on the bike very long at all.

I was surprised how light the pipe felt compared to the SS one I have.
Put the mild steel on the bathroom scale and it showed 11.4 pounds, but the SS one was 10.6!
So fairly light indeed.

What color should I paint it?
Or should I wrap it......lol

I am just glad to have one more thing to cross off the list.

The gentleman making me the drive post for my spare ARD magneto should be done soon.
Once I install that and the exhaust I and tune the carbs and get the bike one more step closer to the road.

Have a line on a set of Koni shocks I might use.
If not they will go on one of the Nortons.

As always I am happy to be plugging away on the bike.

The WD40 is easy to clean off and doesn't contaminate the steel, don't worry too much about that..., Silicone of any type is to be avoided at all costs. ;)

Project isn't dead.
Just have not done much with it.
Figured I would check in anyway.

Did cross one thing off the list though.
Sure it is small and only tool a few minutes, but it is still something off the list.

A while back I scored a throttle on ebay cheap
A Superpartic B!






Has a great look and will work perfectly.
Cleaned it all up and it is ready to go. 
Hope this one shinny bit will not snowball into me trying to make the Seeley NOT ugly.
A similar "mission creep" kinda just happened on my main project.

For those that are not following me on other forums, I have recently gotten into Nortons.
Dug up a few that were too cheap not to buy.  An 850 Commando is my focus right now as that will be my daily ride come the spring.

Here she is!
Has a few period Dunstall parts (including fairing).
Cleaning up really well, and very happy with the project.
VERY different to working on a SOHC CB750.

Its obviously Jag's choice but for me its not about being better, but about having a bad ass period correct speed part on your machine. I chose the Super Pratic B for my build.

Yeah, it isn't really "better" in an real way.

I like that it is simple and comes with all the parts to run custom cables.
Harder to run webers on stock throttle....

I also like that it is "period", maybe not the best part for a none euro bike.
But we are talking about a Japanese powered British race bike.
Is there really a "correct"?

Nice project mate, I love all that period stuff too. I'm picking up 2 CB750 engine's tonight, one came out of the Seeley CB750 that it has occupied since the 1970's.

The story goes that a lady bought a CB750F in 1975, but the seat was too tall for her, so she took it to Bol Dor in Melbourne, and had her engine installed in a Seeley rolling chassis, as the seat was lower on the Seeley.

The guy I'm buying the engine from bought it for cheap, and sold it to a friend who put a hotted up CB750 engine in it, and gave the engine back to the guy I'm buying it from.

With luck I'll see the Seeley tonight too, even though I know it's not for sale...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry, is this another previously unknown Seeley? If you get the chance, take a look at the number stamped on the steering head, and PLEASE take some pics!

harder to run webers on a stock throttle?thats what I run.bill
my manifold is set up for single pull,just cut the end off a stock cable,for the rc man you need a cb450 cable that is 1into 2 should fit in stock throttle.scottly runs single pull as well.billp

MPD Weber manifolds use the single cable, while the RC manifolds use a split cable.

If I ran side drafts I would use an NOS MPD that I have.

Sure not much has been going on with the project as I have been focused on my 850 Commando.

Did score a new K&N filter cheap on eBay.


Also have a freshly rebuilt ARD magneto ready to install.

I am hopeful that I will get the last few pieces for the swing arm wrapped up soon too.

Plan to get back on this full time in a few weeks.

Should come together fairly quickly.
