 I know, we should all have this problem.

 I decided two nice bikes were enough with license, insurance, keeping the carbs working etc, two would be good. I was extremely lucky to find a sandcast I could afford so after I bought it I sold my really nice F1 to  finance the exhaust it needs. I already built a frankenbike diecast, Lesters, 836, cam, ported head, yoshi pipe, repro seat, totally gone through except the 15,000 mile lower end.
 OK it's settled, the two K0's, the Sandy for shows and occasional riding and the hot rod for racking up the miles.
  Then I used some of the money left to buy some bikes to sell to finance my drag race habit. cb400F sold, so I buy more, SOHC drag bike project, cb400 f in progress, cb900c in progress, XS850 for sale, then I see an ad for a GL1000. Cheap enough, I buy it from a photo online and get it home. Won't crank over lots of accessories bugs and dirt but underneath it's gorgeous. No rust ever, even on the accessory chrome. An oil change, starter repair and a solenoid and it spins over like a new one. Choke and reserve and it's popping wanting to run.
 I'm a lucky guy (worked hard) and have a ratty street rod, and a 7 second dragster to feed how can I justify keeping this wing?  She sure is pretty.

I find myself asking the same question.  I'm an "opportunity buyer," if I see something old with a decent price on it, I generally go look no matter what.  I saw a 4 wheeler I wanted a few weeks ago and made an offer on two of the three they guy was selling.  One cleaned carb later and I had a nice running and looking 4 wheeler.  The '87 Foreman 4x4 that came with it, not so much.  I got it started and it smoked like a chimney.  Top end apart now.  I can tell someone else "worked" on it.  Oddball nuts and bolts, etc...

I wrecked my 3 wheeler a few months ago and have a new set of handlebars laying around.  My 750 that I've been working on (for the past 4 years or so) doesn't idle right.  I just replaced the radiator on a Silverwing I have and have carb issues on an old twin I'm working on. 

The (supposedly) quick flip GS650 I have won't start (with a new Dyna S) and my new riding mower won't fit in the shed so it's in the garage (in the way of everything else).  What I really need is more time.....

Don, once you get the GW up and running I doubt you'll let it go.  Sounds as though you need to clean the carbs.  Good luck with it...Larry

How's the timing belts on the Wang Don? To be safe I would replace those. Get you a Randakk's carb rebuild kit it has everything you need to do the carbs right.

Dude seriously?  Cool rod? Drag Car?   ....and a bunch of 750's? should have kept that 400, #$%* all that other garbage you are talking about.  XS750? :-\ 900C? ewwwww...Goldwing?, yechhh...driveshafts are for cars silly

+1 to all that and Randakk by far has the best GL carb kits, they're not cheap but it literally gives you everything you need. What year GL1000 is it? For what ever reason early GL1000's are getting real popular with the GL crowd, I had a 75 GL1000 missing a bunch of parts with no title that I got as a package deal when I got my 83 GL1100, the 75 was in bad shape but when I put it on craigs list I had people from across the country wanting it. I would've loved to have kept it myself but my 750 and 83 GL thin my wallet enough as it is.

  I find that the "want", then the opportunity to make a purchase at a great price, is all the justification I would need.
  Feel good at the buy, the repair, the ride, and proud to be the owner of such vehicles? We only go around once you know, so this must be the time to do it.
Isn't that enough justification?

 Oh yeah, a starter rebuild, lawn tractor solenoid, checked compression, I drained the bowls, nothing nasty came out, filed and lubed the points, found reserve on the petcock, choke cable OK, cb750 battery, cranks pretty good, BAM! she's running. The rear brake lever pivot  was rusted solid. Probably an injection of car wash water, Both M/C's work all the calipers are sticky.
 I'm going to proceed repairing the brakes, the low beam came on when I plugged the fairing back in, She'll need tires. This must be my wife's bike! Happy er, 32 1/4th anniversary? Valentines day, yeah that's it.

If my wife did not like riding the Goldwing so much I would have sold it a while ago. We have been riding together since the early 1970's and have some of our best fun and conversations on the Wing. I could not sell it on her. The only time I ride it is with her or if I am taking a longer trip in the cold. My main ride are the 750's which seems to be the consensus here.

That was one of the main reason I got my Goldwing.  Even though it's 20 plus years older than your bike Johnie my wife Brenda can't believe how smooth and comfortable this old 1977 naked Wing is and when she gets the urge to go riding the Wang is her choice, not the 750's or the Wide Glide.  I find myself riding it just about as much as my 750's rather she is with me or not. Great bike.

hall I road that 77 Wang back about 15 years ago when my brother bought one. I was surprised at how comfortable it was too.

 OK then it's settled, I'm keeping  2 750's and a 79 wing. The drag bike has no plates or insurance so it doesn't eat anything. The 80 850 yamaha's for sale. I put the carbs and vance and hines header on the cb900c it will be running soon. Then I put the cb400F back together to sell.

If you can afford to (1) ride it often enough to keep it current and (2) keep valid insurance on it, there is no "limit".

The 2015 season will see me with eight runners. I enjoy them all, usually for completely different reasons.

I had 10 streetbikes around here once.  I liked them all, but they were an anchor on my ass.  Took up way too much room, took too much time keeping them all maintained, seemed like a couple of them needed tires at any given time, always messing with batteries.  So now I have three.  A KLR made it four for a while, but it is gone. I still have too many cars.
