Primary and Secondary Resistance Specs
« on: February 13, 2015, 05:03:58 PM »
Hey guys,

Running the stock ignition coils on my bike.  I wanted to check out the coils.  Any idea what the specs for the test is.  Owner manual i have has a continuity test and a test with a machine.

Also I did test at the coil for continuity. Blue wire to black and white and yellow to black and white.  I got tone.

But when I probed into spark wires.  I also pulled off boots and went straight into wire. Got nothing on both sides.  Normal?

thanks

Update,

forgot to mention, i have power at the coils black and white wires, 12v. when i shut kill switch i lost power.  so it seems like that portion is good.

primary coils both have continuity and measure at 5 ohms

secondary coil i get 15.4 and 14.8 omhs on coils and no continuity with caps off.

is that normal?  test in books says there is suppose to be continuity.

what bike are we talking?  A few ohms sounds right for the primary side.  The leads to your plugs should not read open if they are.  Make sure your caps are ok too.  My 750 caps are 5k I think so around 10k total...
