Flushing lower engine half
« on: February 16, 2015, 02:43:26 PM »
So my engine has been disassembled for 2 years now. Army deployments stacked on other things have made me very busy.

I have been getting back into finishing the bike and am curious, how can i flush it. I don't have any reasonable suspicion anything damaging has fallen in, i am not missing any parts. But just in case dust, shavings, pieces of gaskets fell down inside, what can be done.

My idea was filling the lower up with oil, or anything that will not cause harm to the lower, but will catch any debris, and drain and repeat a few times.

First Thank You for your service!  2nd I would just use a few squirts of Kerosene or WD-40.  Then squirt some regular motor oil in there.

  • Do not cause harm, nor respond to harm with harm.

Thank you for your service!

I'm not sure if the cases are apart, but I found that mineral spirits works wonders on gelled up oil and the black residue/gunk left behind by old oil. You can try flushing the oil galleys with that.
