...Another cam question
« on: February 28, 2015, 09:02:52 AM »
Howdy,
I've got a 78 750 apart and just about to go back together, wondering about changing the cam: manual gives me tolerances that seem to indicate that the cam is past due, but I've read somewhere on this site (Hondaman?) that those Honda dimensions aren't all that kosher. My question: can anybody tell me their educated opinion on using an old cam and secondly,  should I get an adjustable cam sprocket for dialing in either way?
Thanks to all!

Yeah I checked that and all seems planar and no pitting: it's just the numbers for the exhaust side (lobe height) are below the manuals recommendations.
How 'bout that sprocket question??

Stock sprocket is fine with stock cam. If your cam is 'that' worn I can't imagine what the rocker faces look like?

Cams are one thing Honda doesn't talk much about and they used several variations over the years so take 'information' lightly.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

That's just it: the rocker faces seem fine to me, little visible wear, no scoring or pitting.
Thanks for the sprocket answer.
