No Spark #2 and #3 - 76 CB550K w Dyna S
« on: March 14, 2015, 06:18:17 PM »
Hi all, looking for help on my next trouble shooting step...
No spark to #2 and #3, but all 4 spark when I shut off my ignition. When I swap the blue and yellow wire, #1 and #4 do not have spark (and #2 and #3 do have spark.) I have a Dyna S Electronic ignition. Brand new battery. What does that point to as being the problem?

AJ, is the Dyna about 5 years old? That's when the now classic dyna syndrome started. ;)

Yeah, it probably is about 4-5 years old....tempted to go back to points and condensers now.

If you do, use Hondaman's transistorized ignition box in conjunction. Or simply replace the failed Dyna plate with a new unit and get back to riding.

5 years is actually pretty good because most of those usually failed at about 3 years at least that's how long mine lasted.

+1!!! On hondaman's transistorized ignition.
It's cheaper than the any electronic and has an identically good resulting function AND The benefit of being 100% fault tolerant- if his box ever goes kerplop (and I haven't heard of this happening), you are still running your entire OEM analog system anyway, so you just reconnect that as it was and leave out the box and off you go.   It's a 3 min fix...
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

Before you condemn the Dyna, go over your connections carefully. I thought mine was toast until I found a dodgy connector where the 2 power wires go to the coils.
