He ended up just blasting them and not having to remove the chrome and charged me $15 each which was less than I expected. What else were you looking for.

I had a situation where my chrome wheels were previously blasted, ground, pretreated and powdercoated. It looked nice initially but after about 3 years the powdercoated chrome that was left started to peel. It was mostly on the inside and back of the wheels. Then the loose #$%* started to "slap" my calipers and it drove me crazy. That being said, I just had all 4 of my Aftermarket 20" truck wheels stripped of the old powder and then de-chromed. It was 80$ a wheel and was done with an electro?-chemical process. It worked out really well even with the pitted aluminum under the already semi-peeling chrome. Still cheaper than new wheels. Anyway as per the information you provided about the EPA, good thing I got it done now and didn't procrastinate any longer. The word on chrome (from a reputable plater) is that chrome should NEVER peel if done correctly, but once/if it starts, it will never stop.

I'm just going to have them re-coated. I'm not much of a chrome guy and after this disaster I'd rather the option to change the finish at any time.

'Course you could also forget about spoked wheels, and get a nice set of mag wheels, which will allow you to run tubeless tires...and won't take an eternity to clean...I'm definitely not a fan of spoked wheels, regardless of what kind of bike they're on, but that's just me...given a choice between spoked or mag wheels, I'll take mag wheels every time...
