Setting up those Carbs on a CB 750 K
« on: May 03, 2015, 11:33:36 AM »
Hi I am a Brit and purchased a CB 750 K6 that was imported from the States last year with 1k on the clock !!!.
The first owner moved it on because he could not sort the carb jetting get it to ride in any sort of way.
This silly sod purchased it and inherited the supposed easy problem.
Ten hours a day and two weeks later sorted.
The solution to get it right is:
Forget the after market jet sets from Japan sold as a 4 x set on Ebay and the Keyster, all led me close to suicide.
The only solution is to keep the originals if still remotely serviceable or buy from Honda new.
I found 110 Main Jets, 2720 Honda needles in the fourth down slot (the 2730 needles do not work, the third slot is too weak and the fourth too rich) now the dreaded pilot circuit, this requires a little working , the size 40 is fine on cylinders 2/3 but on 1/4 runs weak and ruins the tickover, so I purchased a micro drill set and very carefully by hand bored out 1/4 to .45 half a mm from stock.
Hey presto I can now get even readings on the vacuum gauges,  it ticks over at 1000rpm and no clutch rattle . All turned out at 1 from bottoming.
The bike is fitted with a K & N filter
The bike now pulls like a train and no flat spots or surges.
I hope this helps someone who is going through the sleepless nights I endured.

Richard

Welcome from Texas, Richard.  Good to hear you got it sorted.  Only 1K miles, must be a new gauge?

Why new parts to the carbs?
My K6 carbs ran almost 90.000kms without replacing anything except main jets to match 4-1, tuned engine and pod filters. I'm sure I can use them again after a very good clean.
