Cb550/500t petcock installation
« on: May 09, 2015, 03:03:22 PM »
So I ordered a new petcock. The threads line up and it seems like it should fit. But maybe I'm crazy because I can't seem to get everything aligned properly.

As you can see in the pics it came with a nut and separate petcock tube. The tube threads into the but - BUT it has nothing to stop it from threading in, only the body of the petcock, which I know can't be right. The threaded hole on the nut is the same size as the threads on the body, so it just threads in and out. There's nothing for the tiny oring on the body to press and seal against.

I attached pictures.

Help me out? I feel silly that this isn't just going right in place...

I thought the threads were opposite, and the nut pulls the petcock and tank bung together?

Yeah, one side of the threads on the nut is reversed. Start with the nut almost off on the petcock. Hold petcock still and thread onto the tank. It'll draw the petcock up and mate the petcock and tank bung surfaces.

Thanks guys I figured it out. I had to get a washer. The petcock and oring just went up into the bung instead of sealing against it. I hope the washer idea works and it doesn't leak. I'll test it soon enough.
