Commuting close call
« on: August 01, 2015, 01:52:10 PM »
I was riding home from work on my CB550 at about 3AM a couple of days ago. I was on a 2 lane 35MPH road going through town and I spotted a car behind me driving erratically. The 2 lane turned into 4 lane and there was a red light with a car in the left lane. I moved to the right lane and the car that was behind me smashed into the back of the car in the left lane right next to me. The driver was drunk and never even touched the brakes. If I hadn't moved over I would have been the filling in a 4 wheeler sandwich. About 6 months ago on my way to work a lady looking at her cell phone let her foot off the brake and idled into the back of my bike at a red light and slightly bent my fender. She said she was very sorry. I like commuting on my bike but you really have to be careful out there.

I'm glad that your hide is intact.
The way your luck is going, it might be wise to commute in an APC.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

I commute every day.  While it's kind of trite - ride like everyone is trying to kill you, because some of them are.
