Regulator / Rectifier which is the output wire? Red or Black?
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:54:19 PM »
I have a quick question regarding the Regulator / Rectifier setup on the SOHC4's.  Im doing a custom harness and wiring job and have upgraded to a solid state combo regulator/rectifier and I noticed the system has two power wires

-constant 12v red wire goes to rectifier stock
-switched 12v Black wire goes to regulator stock

I wanted to know which wire is outputting the charging power ?

It appears the red is the charging output and the black is just a power on / reference voltage but wanted to check before finishing things off

Yep. red goes directly to the battery and black gets +12V from the ignition switch. The field coil is powered from the black - if that's not switched power, it will drain your battery quickly when the motor isn't running.
