Paint code label
« on: August 26, 2015, 07:09:57 AM »
All,

I have a 77 CB550F that’s in neglected condition.  I’m trying to figure out the original color of the bike.  I have check the charts and elsewhere on the net. I know the 77 550Fs came in a red and a sword blue.    The problem, when I bought the bike it had a 550K style brown tank with orange strips.  The side covers were painted to match.  I can tell the side covers used to be blue, which would imply the bike was manufactured in blue.  I would like a way just to confirm.  I keep reading about color codes.  I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the bike.  Is there a specific location?  If there isn’t such a tag or if it’s lost, is there a way to tell from the VIN?

Thanks
Ace

No such thing as what you are looking for.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Jerry

I expected as much. I appreciate the response.  Will probably go with the blue given the side covers used to be blue.

Thanks
Ace

Jerry is right.....there are no paint codes to be found on the bike.  Honda called the color Candy Sword Blue. There are no codes from Honda ........but I have the color charts from Lubri-Tech which was the US supplier for motorcycle paint in the 1970's.....but L-T was sold to Color-Rite.  Call C-R and they might sell that color but I doubt it.   Online they only go back to 1982 but I know they sell the 79 CBX Candy red.  L-T chart calls out a light grey metallic base and a candy blue top coat so you could get close with a House of Color Candy Oriental Blue over a metallic grey base.
