Cb750 F Tank?
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:48:30 PM »
Hey guys,

Does anyone have a spare F tank they are willing to sell? I have been looking for a while and these dont go cheap. I figure this is the best place to ask around.

Let me know and thanks!

I've had this "mystery tank" sitting around the garage for years. It was jam-fit on my '75 550K, with the rear mount stabbed into the upholstery by the PO to make it stay put. The tunnel is too narrow to fit a 550's top tube, but it might fit a 750. Looks kinda like an F tank. Think it might fit?

Matt,

I was at Magnum Cycles in Louisville, KY yesterday. They have one. Not original paint. I mentioned $100 but that didn't bring much attention. Looked OK but I didn't go over it with the fine tooth comb. Told him I knew someone that wanted a F tank and would pass along the information.

Give them a call and ask for Daniel. His dad was a buddy of mine and recently passed away. Daniel is taking over now. He said to make sure you mention that Drug Man told you to call. He'll recognize that handle that his dad gave me many years ago more than he would my name.

Was hanging out there many years ago. Unknown to them. Bob finally got curious and asked what I did for a living. My car didn't fit the hood style. Hesitantly I told him I worked for a drug store. Laying low considering THAT mixed biker crowd. Didn't want the hassle. He then asked what it was I actually do. That's when I told him pharmacist. Instantaneously he says you're Drug Man. Stuck with me. They had a lot of fun with it. I got both plenty of attention and some people wouldn't come close to me. Walked in one day with my alpha male 100lb German Shepherd, a police T-shirt on that he had given me from his brother and a KY Marijuana Task Force hat and yelled "Narc dog, freeze this is a bust". You should've seen that! I've altered it here to Rxman to clean it up a little. When I give up my license in a few years I'm just DrugMan.  ;D ;)

The mounting fixtures are the same as a SOHC4 tank -- the forward supports fit the round rubber mounts of a '70s Honda, and the rear flange fits the slotted rear rubber stay.  The tunnel is too flat to accommodate the arched top tube of a 550, but IIRC, don't 750s have three narrow, straight tubes under the tank?

I just kept searching "all of craigslist" everyday for about 1.5 years...I finally snagged one for $80 then put much more than that into it to have dents removed, badges filled, new petcock, paint, etc...it took 2 weeks of shaking to get out all the rust...I guess all I am saying is, they are out there. Don't give up!
