1978 super sport brakes
« on: October 28, 2006, 08:52:43 PM »
Ok the 2 previous owners say that my bike has 1978 SuperSport dual discs (my bike is a 1972 cb750k). I'm checking out some sites and don't know if 750F means the same as SuperSport. Can someone clarify? I want to replace the pads rotors and also get braided lines. Any suggestions for good North American companies?

Is 1978 compatible with any other year?

Thanks in advance.

I know that a 750F is a supersport model. The 77's and 78's have dual discs while the 76 and older models had a single disc in the front. I also believe 77 and 78 are the same. Someone else will have to answer the rest, sorry.

How many bolts hold the rotors on and what sort of brackets are the calipers on?

Here's a pic of the 77-78 CB750 F2/3 Supersport front brake caliper. Note that it mounts at the rear of the fork leg, not in front like other models. I don't think that the 77-78 brake calipers would mount to earlier model forks so if your calipers are 77-78 then your forks will also be 77-78(painted black). The rotors needed to use these calipers have 5 mounting bolts(not 6) so you would have to use a Comstar wheel(not spoked).

If the bike in your avatar is the bike in question I would hazard a guess that your brakes are 75-76 750F Supersport and have been converted to run twin disk.

Partsnmore has pics of the different types of pads so you can match to what you have on your bike.

I bought them from Wayne "Chung" Bailey almost 5 years ago. Not available from any parts store, just gotta find someone willing to drill stock rotors.
