R.I.P Digger hope your ridding your Honda Chopper through the clouds.  You will be missed.  It is such a reminder of what is important in life and to live it to the fullest.  You only go around once make it a good trip.

Such a shame, so sad. Seems like several people getting hurt this season from drivers who have no regard for the lives of others. Several deaths locally this year. Glad to see several from the forum chipping in, every bit helps. Although most of us are spread so far away, we are a tight knit bunch.

Wear a lid guys. I was taken down by a careless driver this month and am so glad I choose to wear a full face or I might not be here.

It's such a tragic to lose brothers at such a young age.

God had different plans for Digger.

Go get 'em brother.

Just received this update from Diggers cousin Mia:

"I had a phone interview yesterday morning with a reporter from the Daily Southtown / Chicago Tribune who will be running an article in tomorrow's edition regarding Robert Haag 's accident. They are still currently looking for a suspect in the hit-and-run accident that took my cousin's life, so I am asking for all to please share the below link far and wide. In my head I believe in the power of numbers and that HE WILL SEE THIS. As long as my family has to continue to cry themselves to sleep at night, I don't want this man sleeping at all until he does the right thing, which is to turn himself in.

Thank you all so much once again for your loving support, kindness and generosity as we grieve the loss of our beloved Bob. I am eternally grateful from the bottom of my heart. Much love to you all."

While I never met Digger in person, I sold him some parts a few weeks back and it was a very positive experience. Riding bikes is an inherently dangerous activity, but to have a coward not stop when hitting another human being is especially hard to understand. My prayers go out to his friends and family during this difficult time.

Digger and I were both 35, both rebuild carbs.  Kind of close to home, or about as much as could be from an acquaintance on a message board.

If anyone had carbs that were being worked on by digger at the time, message me--I will honor digger's price and donate the proceeds to the gofundme.

Update from Mia below.  BTW - the GoFundMe is over $11K...

"Dear SOHC Brothers,

I just recently learned about the forum and was touched by the outpouring of support. I am sure most of you have seen this video, but I thought I would share the link anyway and make a personal note to tell you all of my eternal gratitude for your kindness.

He built this bike with his own hands, and I know the pride and the joy he had in riding it....godspeed Bob."

So did they catch the guy that hit him?

The latest update is that the Police have made no progress toward identifying the guy who pulled out in front of him.  It looks like it depends on a witness coming forward.

Another email from Mia...

"Dear Stev-o

I am so deeply touched by the outpouring of support by your community, and I am so sorry for your loss as well. My cousin was an awesome guy and we all miss him something fierce.

Thank you kindly for your donation in Bob’s memory for his beautiful children. The outpouring of love, generosity and support has been overwhelming and has truly helped carry us through this difficult time. Your kindness will help ease one small
burden his family has to suffer through while continuing on their journey of healing, and for that I am forever grateful

Much luv to you and yours,
Mia

If you have any favorite stories of Bob please feel free to share it with me as I am compiling a book of memories for his children, for when they are older, so they can feel the over and light of his soul through all the hearts he touched."

I didn't have much to do with Bob, Steve but I did get him to be the middle man for me whilst buying some brake parts for one of my projects, when the parts were shipped the original seller left out the complete rear brake set up, Bob was pissed and sorted the whole mess out straight away and made sure neither of us were left paying for any of the sellers blunder. I also spoke in PM's about his life restructure and how things were finally getting better for him and his kids. He was a good guy and a man of his word....Much respect....   This is still so sad    :'(
