« on: October 30, 2006, 06:54:21 PM »
I was watching the biker build off tonight, well still am. I can say that Roger Goldammer has nailed it nicley with this latest one. Talk about hard to step to.  8)

Only 128MPH? WTF? Of course it is a stock dirt bike turned into a salt runner  ;D

You got me Sam, I caught it after it was on for 15 minutes so I missed that. Maybe this pic will help.

The performance would probably actually be better if they ran some kind of air tubes opening up towards the back of the bike to reduce the turbulence and airflow across the outer intake of the carbs. Especially full-out and at top-end.

Yea... i thought I had tivo'd it so I went to check what motor it was... I guess I didn't tivo it and I seem to have missed that part tonight. I was just happy to see two bikes built without harley/harley knock off motors.

More like a low-speed wobble.  I believe he topped out at 97mph.

Well, it's no #$%*ing wonder that thing got low speed wobbles. Rigid rear end, and a gemotery on the 60 year old front fork design is so out of whack (read: too raked) that there is no way it can do it's job, which was made more difficult due to the rigid rear end.
I think it's too bad he used original vincent engine and front end to make that sorry thing.
I think he should probably be punished for that. If he had gone the Egli direction and used the parts adn made a BETTER motorcycle, it's all good. All he did was destroy a perfectly good classic though.

OK, the more I think about this, the less happy I am.

His challenge was to build a bike for the salt flats.
So, he took the parts of a bike that were capable of a good 120mph or so back in 1954 in the same spot,
Removed the only relatively hi-tech part of the stock bike, the monoshock rear suspension, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and time, and made a purpose built bike that is 20% SLOWER[/b] at this purpose built task than the 50 year old original? To top it off, the #$%* changes he made have for sure made this bike 40 to 50% slower at OTHER tasks (such as, uh, turning) at the same time?
And he did all this to a Vincent Black Shadow?
#$%*ing unbelievable.
#$%*ing moron. I hope he #$%*ing chokes.

Hey, I'm with ya!! I think he ought to be strung up. A "Black Shadow" of all things!!
The bike does have a cool look but, lets get real here!! I mean even if all I had of the original, was
the motor, I'd detail that sucker and put it on a stand for display! Course, I'd like to have it to
where I could fire it up once in awhile though.
