Topic: 1975 Honda 750F Kick Start Spring Installation

I can't figure out how to install the kick start spring on my 1975 Honda CB750F.  Does anyone have any tricks on installing this spring?   Here is a picture of the spring before disassembly.

I checked out the Dino Hack a Week's videos.   There was nothing in the videos pertaining to installing the kick starter spring.  The videos are a definite watch for reassembly and I will view them all.   Thanks for the tip.   By the way, through much perseverance and blessing, I was able to get the coil spring assembly back in.

The one thing to check that MUST be true when this is reinstalled is: make SURE that gear spins very freely, like with the flick of a finger. It is the oil pump's drive gear!

Dino obviously didn't want to share the secret, how much blood and  skunned knuckles incurred?

The trauma left me with short term amnesia.  I couldn't explain how I got it in.

I just went through this myself ... did find a typed instruction indicating the longer "ear" on the pawl had to be pushed below the horizontal pin in the case.  I could not find a way to do that with the shaft in the gear and pawl.   

I found by placing ONLY the gear and pawl in place, I then was able to push the pawl down under the horizontal pin. 
Once that was in place, I was then able to line up and install the shaft.

The small gap in the shaft splines ... should line up with the oil hole on the pawl.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

That's a good way to do it: I also have a shaft without splines that I made that can be slid into these parts to help with pushing them down into place. A 5/16" wood dowel would also work, I think.

There's lots of these out there with my blood DNA still in those cases, though...
