Ok so looking at an earlier post by Spanner1 "If you unplug the SSU and remove it you can by-pass it's function by jumping the solid Green wire to the Dark Green/Red wire( there is also a light green/red ). That's it, your done........the starter will now spin whether your in gear or N or clutch is pulled or not...  N light will still work when in N 'tho..........." I thought I would tackle the removal of my starter motor safety unit or SMSU.... however my bikes previous owner replaced the stock clutch and cut the Dark green/Red wire at the SMSU base so what do I do now to eliminate this SMSU ?I plan to just run my own start button direct from the starter and have the kick option. Help Please!!!
1974 CB550 ...Hopefully you can see in the picture the 5 out from the safety unit to the 4 wires on the other side, the missing 5th is the  Dark green/red wire the old owner clipped.

All that's needed is a ground for the Start Solenoid. On most of the 550 bikes, the Yellow-Red wire to the solenoid supplies +12 volts when you press the Start button, so all you need to do is connect the Green/Red wire of the Start Solenoid to the loose Green wire under the left side cover.

On my start solenoid I don't have a green/red wire, and unfortunately my bike came cover-less so where would I plug it in?
this is the mess I am dealing with......

yeah, I ordered a new wiring harness (the old one was so modified it would have taken way too long to try and trace everything) but it keeps the old routing to the starter and reg/rec (its from the Dapper Motorcyclery)
I double checked the solenoid and took a picture of it, the only wires between the two posts are a yellow wire with a red stripe and a pink wire that gets spliced to a black wire, the following picture are the new harness routing and the solenoid wires, so far every thing works lights, ect. just not getting power to the starter solenoid.
I pulled back the plastic piece to see if maybe it just got cut short but there is only the two wires.....

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought it was a simple matter of disconnecting the starter button's green/red wire in the headlight and plugging it into a green (earth) connecter?

I wish it were so easy, the previous owner pulled the old wires out of the headlamp and trimmed most of them in trying to eliminate the bar switches... made it more fun for me!

Also:
It is possible that, since the pink wire is tied to the Black (Ignition power) on the bike, the START button might be the 'grounding type' as was found on the pre-1974 CB750 and the CB500. On those bikes, the START button simply connects to the handlebar (which should be grounded through the triple tree, sort of...) when pressed. So, the other side of the Start Solenoid should then get +12 volts (Ignition) power when the key is ON. In effect, this reverses the direction of the current through the Start solenoid, but it does not care about that: it will still pull in when powered, and engage the big contacts.
