Topic: Installing New Clutch Cable on 78 CB750

hey all,

I'm going to be installing a new Motion Pro clutch cable. A task I've never performed before. Any pointers? Should I connect one end (perch end) before the other?

Also, on the clutch end of the cable, do I need to pop off the clutch cover or can I just unscrew the bolts at the end of the existing cable to release it?

Don't worry this job is pretty easy.  First off you'll need to remove the kick start lever and the chrome cover.  Then run both the adjusters all the in, to make the cable slack.  Then I remove the nut that holds the arm on the lifter plate shaft, then remove the cable end from the arm.  Then at the the lever just line up the slot in the adjuster, lock nut, and lever.  Then just slide the cable out of the lever.  Baiscly the installation is the reverse of the removal, then just adjust the clutch and cable as per the manual, and your all set to go.

Here is how I adjust the clutch and cable (if you want to know).  I loosen the lock nut on the lifter shaft and run it in till I feel it bottom out, then I back it off a quarter turn and lock it down.  Then I like to take just a small amount of slack out of the cable with the bottom adjuster (my personal preference).  Then I fine tune the rest of the adjustment at the lever.

Don't forget to squirt some lube down into the cable. They need it, even though they seem pretty slippery when new.

I cant say much good about it...my motion pro clutch cable snapped after less than 500mi.  Pulled out the barrel at the end.
Lube it, and keep an eye on it at the ends.

That is what failed on mine I have a temporary end on it but it deals all wrong and I can't get it ajusted right was going to do it today but it is in the low 40s and raining so I guess rain check on that yes bad pun intended
