Tach gauge
« on: October 12, 2015, 06:16:50 PM »
I've been having trouble getting my tach to work.  A new drive gear somehow broke the housing that holds it onto the cylinder head cover.  Anyway, when I try to drive the Tach with a drill on the cable, the gauge is very sluggish to move.  The cable is free to move though.  Any suggestions on fixing that gauge or is it toast?

Just a follow up to anyone searching this problem in the future.

My tach works perfectly now!
That speedometer link was good as were a few YouTube videos to show how simple these tachs are.  Mine had been previously molested by a PO which is what caused the main problem.  One of the small screws that holds the face plate on was rattling around inside the glass.  That wasn't a big deal but the other one was silver...which meant the other black one went missing the last time the tach was apart.  It was on the magnet!  I removed that (and put it back where it belonged) lubed the main pivot and after spinning it a bit, it was smooth as new.  Plus it looked mint too with both black screws back in place.
