cb550 new rims
« on: September 22, 2015, 04:10:20 AM »
Hello. I am replacing the rims and spokes on my 78 cb550.The old rims are rusted so i will replace with alloy rims and stainless spokes.
I would like to ask peoples opinions please on changing the rim sizes or not.I've read that some people put an 18" rim on the front. also widening to 2.15" front and back?
any thoughts appreciated or links to previous posts. Many thanks.Mike.

Hi. Thanks for the Replies.
I have my eye on some 18" Cerchio Borroni Record style rims from a seller in Italy on ebay. I think other folks here have used them.I need to find out the length of the front spokes for the reduced front rim diameter, If anybody knows please? Buchanan's look like they sell a kit for 18" rim. I am wondering if there needs to be allowance in spoke length for rim with dimple or not? Or if there is anything else to look out for, like the angle of the spoke holes? Thankyou. Mike.

I live in Sydney and Ive found a local guy to lace and true my new 2.5 & 2.15 X 18"rims.
Unfortunately I have disassembled the rear rim without measuring for an offset.Does anybody know what this offset measurement is please, or will just having the correct spokes automatically set the offset correctly?Thankyou.

What offset are you referring to? Were any Hondas made with an offset rim? None that I know of.

I was referring to the lateral distance from the outside edge of rim to the hub spoke flange and whether or not it is equal on either side of the rear wheel?  Is there no offset on the cb 550?
I have never had a wheel re spoked before and are just wanting to be informed for the task.Thankyou

The center of the hub spoke flanges should be centered on the rim.
