frame and engine serial numbers
« on: November 15, 2015, 06:37:29 AM »
Hi
I have just purchased a CB750 from eBay with the intention of making a cafe style racer, however the bike came with a log book stating it is a 1977 CB750 with the frame number (CB750g 1001240) engine number (CB750e 30229229) and running k1 -k2 carbs. With the little research i have managed to find out about these numbers please can someone help me out here, have i bought a melon? and will these carbs even run with this engine.
Hope to be proven wrong and all is good.

Cheers

750g should be a European F2 type bike, no idea what year. The engine number looks like 1978 (several changes from all previous years). Carbs from any SOHC 750 should work on any SOHC 750 - the intake spacing, displacement, and such are the same, the throttle cables changed a bit. It depends on what mods were made to the carbs and what mods you make to the engine/intake/exhaust whether these particular carbs will operate well without retuning them.

Is that engine number correct? There were no 8 digit VIN's. The frame correlates to a 1977 CB750F2. Engine numbers for that year are in the same number range as the frame starting at #E1000016

That engine number designates a 1977 model F2, as that year vin's start with E 2600004 and 78 model starts with E 3100001. Bottom line is you have a factory correct set of numbers for a 77 F2.
