Clip-on question.
« on: January 03, 2016, 06:22:09 PM »
I am currently running clubman bars but want to switch over to some clip-ons. What would this require? I have heard that I will need to run shorter length throttle and clutch cable, but will all of the stock components that normally go on the bars, fit on a set of clip-ons?

depends...there are a ton of different clip-on sizes and adjustments.  Frequent to have interference with the master cylinder banjo bolt and fork hears/headlight/gauges.  You are gonna need a wayyy shorter brake hose from mc to brake light switch.  All other cables can be re-routed to work ok, but it will probably look a mess.  If you are looking to grab some clip ons, throw 'em on, and be riding the same day, you will need a hell of a lot of ducks all in a row.  No rearsets?...make chiropractor appointments now...but since you have clubmans now, guessing weekly chiro visits are already the norm.
If it works good, it looks good...

Does anyone know what clip-on size (length) will fit the oem handlebar components? I don't need to be able to do this in one day, but I also don't want to introduce more problems than are necessary. I don't have a problem buying shorter cables since I was going to replace the ones on the bike anyways. Thanks.

I would suggest measuring the exsisting space (clubmans) required and ordering bars of that length or longer. You can always cut them down to a length that suites your preferences.

I'm with calj on this one, the difference in length between clubman and clip-ons will be minimal at best probably not require a cable change if the current length is correct for the clubman.  Most clip-ons will be of substantial length not worry about anything but possibly shortening them for your application.
