Stolen Bike!!
« on: October 30, 2006, 02:01:54 PM »
Tell me what you guys think because I'm not sure what to do.

I bought a K3 750 this summer off of ebay (with title and all) and quickly re-sold it a month later because I found something that was nicer and cheaper (K4 750).

So here is where  it get kinda strange.  I sold the bike to a guy going cross country picking up old bikes he bought on ebay.  He and another guy are sending the bikes back and making so good dough.  He emails me a couple of days ago saying that the bike was seized because it was stolen!!  I'm assuming the bike were being inspected because they were being shipped over.  They probably were running the numbers on all the bikes and found that this one was stolen!  You can imagine my suprise when he contacts me wondering why I sold him a stolen bike.

I still had the name, phone number, ebay username, and address from the guy I picked the bike up from; so I handed it over to the guy I sold it to.  What I don't understand is how the guy gave me the title to the bike if it was stolen?  Does this mean he stole the title and the bike, or probably made a counterfit title.  What do you guys think?  Was it dumb for me to turn over the information of the guy I bought it from?

If everyone who passed the bike on would tell the truth eventually they will find the crook.

Could have been a scam in an attempt to get you to refund his money.....

Did you title the bike in your name? If so when you submitted the title it would have been flagged.

no, never titled it.  A couple days after I bought it my neighbor told me that his dad was selling something similar to my bike.  When I talk to his dad I come to find that he has a 750K4 that he wants to get rid of.  He's had it for the last 15 years and hasn't ridden more then 1k miles on it!  In addition, his buddy was the original owner!!  Garage kept its whole life.  It has a couple of flaws here and there but it was in better condition and cheaper then the bike I just bought.  So I never bothered doing the title thing since I knew I was going to sell it.

If the bike was ever actually stolen it had to have been recovered and auctioned off or sold by insurance or the previous owner to have a real title.  Cant say for sure what happened here but I would bet it's a scam in some way.

I found the article from RIDE magazine on public apathy towards motorcycle thieving scumbags.

If anybody would like a copy contact me.
