Starter button
« on: February 10, 2016, 05:03:52 PM »
After refurbishing this barn find for some time, I just noticed that it is missing a starter button. Buy a whole new right side switch body or is there a cheap (I hope) and easy fix? The wiring runs inside the bars and I don't look forward to pulling them out.

My starter button disintegrated, but the rest of the switch was fine. I shopped eBay for a similar era switch, figuring the actual button assembly would be the same and I was right. Cannabalized the eBay switch to remove the button assembly and grafted it into my original switch and it's been fine ever since.

4 into 1 sells a button and spring. The button appears to have a little brass probe. Both are genuine Honda parts Would these suffice?

That depends on what's missing from yours.  Inside the housing is a little bit of circuit board with a contact on it, plus a little brass piece that the spring pushes against.  If you've got those then the spring and button itself is all you would need.
