CB500/4 CB450 fork swap
« on: March 12, 2017, 10:54:13 PM »
Will CB450 forks fit my CB500/4K?

My tubes are gnarly, bubbled and without chrome. I pushed them 2" through the triple, love the suspension, hate how high they stick up.

I read that the CB450 forks are 2" shorter than the CB500's, and since I'm replacing the tubes, I'd like to replace with a set that doesn't stick up so high.

The 71-74 CB500 K1 K2 has a 23" tube length, 35mm OD, and  26mm ID.

The 69-70 CB450 K2-K3-4 has a 21" Tube length, 35mm OD, and 26mm ID.

The only other  bikes, the 68-71 CL450 K2-3-4, and the 67- CL305 CL77 have the same fork sizing as the CB450, but they have drums, and I'm assuming the lower fork mounts are different.

Being progressive springs and aftermarket tubes will cost a small fortune, I have been eyeing a set of used CB450 forks I found, I could swap.

The sizing is right at 35mm OD, the 21" length is perfect for me, but will all the lower mounts align, is the question...

Yep, the 75-76 CB500 K T has L23" 35OD 26OT as well. Same as the 650, some 750s, and MR250. Nice twin strynboen

The 750 is longer than the 500/550/650 though right? I found the sizes here: http://www.thechopperunderground.com/forum/index.php?/topic/27700-japanese-fork-tube-diameters-and-length/ which is oddly in inches and I don't know the accuracy. I always read about people swapping 550 forks to drop their 750...

Most importantly, your saying that the caliper mount types on the 450 are different than the 500/4? In that case I can scratch the fork swap idea. But do you know if I could swap just the tubes?
