Needle Clip Settings on a 1974 cb550
« on: November 12, 2006, 05:14:42 PM »
Hi everyone,

I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs of my 74 cb 550.
Can someone tell me the setting for the spring clips on the needles?  The ones I removed were set at the second groove from the bottom (pointy end), but I dont know if someone else may have messed with them in the past, and the bike was running quite rich before I pulled the carbs.  Any help is appreciated!

Thanks
Ray

Middle position is stock. Lowering the clip raises the needle and may explain your rich condition.

Thanks kettlesd.    I have found a couple different ideas about the clip position in other threads.  Several have indicated one up from the bottom, but a couple have said the third slot...  I was hoping the ones i pulled off of the bike were wrong, as this would explain my persistantly rich condition, despite checking other obvious problems.  I will try the middle position unless anyone else thinks a different position is correct.

Yeah,

Stock tune - pipes, plugs, Carbs, Airbox, filters (no K&N's), etc, etc. then Middle Clip.

Let us know how you make out with it.
