Borescope for Android phone/PC Nice !!!
« on: March 08, 2016, 06:31:37 PM »
A quick review of an awesome product.    A $15 smartphone borescope I picked up on ebay.
2M (or 5M) in length, 6 adjustable brightness LEDs on the end, and a decent camera.  Magnet, hook, and 90deg mirror attachments.
Plugs into your android smartphone micro USB port, or into the USB dongle.  Uses one of many apps available to take pictures or video.

camera and led's

smaller than a AAA battery

still picture of battery.  up child nostril picture omitted for obvious reasons ::)

bright led's

Nice find.  I paid close to $100 for mine.  I am happy with it, but this is nice as you don't have to pay extra for the screen just hook up to android.

I had no idea that they made these for android devices.  I just bought the 5 meter version in case I need to look down any pipes or anything like that.  I am pretty stoked about it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Another similar item, if you guys don't have an ODBII reader for your car, they make a bluetooth device that connects to your Android phone and works with the Torque app to read codes, clear codes, and monitor just about any sensor you have on the car.

The app I downloaded in the Google Play Store is called CameraFi.
As soon as I plug the borescope in, the app opens.

NO.
Your android smartphone must support OTG (on the go) function, which allows your phone to act as a host when other USB devices are attached to it.
If you have a newer android smartphone, it probably has OTG built in.

Here is a list of OTG phones which are compatable with this borescope

Get the Torque app and beware of imposters.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torquefree&hl=en

Torque lite is fine and will do just about anything you want. I bought the pro with some credit I had and it hasn't really done any more for me than the free version.

I have the $6 ODB2 reader and the free Torque Lite downloaded also. Works great. Read your codes then re-set the light. The $$ version is more suited to tuning, etc and is probably not necessary. I tried to use the one on the mini-disc that came with it on my lap top. Forget that one.

Thanks for letting us know about this.
I ordered one yesterday even though the freight cost to Oz was $48AUD.
That's just how it goes sometimes when you see something good.

]Thanks FB just got a new phone, but it's not in the same league as any of those. on another note, The OBD thing sems like it would eliminate the need (somewhat) to use a conventional scanner while diagnosing a car.

There is a QR code on the top of the tin it comes in.  Scan it and an app downloads automatically.

amazon fire is somewhat compatible with android apps, but not all.  keep trying other apps similar to the one i linked.   something will work.

Mine arrived on Thursday.
I downloaded camerafi, plugged it in and it fired up straight away.
That's a great little camera that delivers an exceptionally clear picture on the phone screen.

I've got a USB adaptor for this Samsung Tablet that I'm typing on now and I'll hook it up tonight.
In hindsight, I should have bought a few more.
It's a brilliant little device.  ;D
