I confess to being a longtime lurker, and since I haven't been able to break my SOHC habit, I figured it was high time I bit the bullet and registered.

I live in New Orleans, LA, with my lovely fiancee. My ride is a 1976 CB750K6 -- in somewhat rough form cosmetically but in fine shape mechanically. This is my second SOHC 4, as I had a 550K several years ago during a period of time when I thought it would be best if I had two motorcycles. I've owned a number of machines over the years, but I really like the old Hondas.

My motorcycle is sort of a rolling restoration. Since I bought it about a year ago, I've changed all the fluids (just got to the fork oil today), adjusted the valves, renewed the spark plugs and done a wee bit of polishing. Hasn't reallly needed anything, though! It's got only 17,500 miles on it, after all.

My real motorcycle project my lady's BMW R65 that flooded in Hurricane Katrina -- rusted frame, seized motor, the works.  But I'm on the case, and I'll get it sorted out eventually. (I keep trying to convince her to get a CB400F to ride in the meantime.)

Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself here. Look forward to being a part of the community!

I'll try to get some pics up next weekend. (I'm working today and leaving on vacation in the morning.)

As for the R65, it is (or was, I should say) a fun ride, and pretty simple mechanically. My goal is to find a motor from an R80 (another underappreciated BMW) and cram that into the frame.

I went to school in new orleans but left after katrina. How's it lookin there?

Well, it depends where you are. I live in Mid-City near the Fair Grounds, and things are back to normal in my neighborhood. It's still slow-going in the east, in Gentilly, the Lower 9. Broadmoor is coming back rapidly. French Quarter is back to normal, as is Uptown. City Park is cleaning up nicely.

I lived in lake view across the street from plantation coffee house(off canal) if you are familiar with that area. If you live near the fair ground you must be close to the dental school?

My MG mechanic used to live over in the Plantation Coffeehouse area. I once pushed a motorcycle home from the I-610, past the coffee shop, through City Park, and down Esplanade to my home. (Thankfully not the Honda.)

I am not far from the dental school, but on the other side of the Fair Grounds. Between Esplanade and Ursulines.

Well, the gas tank didn't get wet. But since practically everything else needs paint, it's going to get a fresh coat too. The forks, surprisingly (to me), didn't take on water and look pretty good. (Edit: the internals, that is. The fork lowers are badly corroded.) Glad I replaced those seals last year!

Other than that, it's pretty nasty project. There is a whiteish sediment on everything that was under water. All steel parts rusted to some degree. The frame and swingarm are going to get a powdercoat.

That place is now called something like Asian Pacific Cafe. It's open and is doing good business, as are Lola's, Terranova's and Cafe Degas. The Circle K (Zero K to us non-fans) remains boarded up and closed. (It still has "NOPD beat me down" spraypainted on the front.)

Thats the place! A big guy owned it before. I think he was hawian. his name was Vince. Last time I was in NO there were still boats out on Vets.

Spiderman,I don't know you or any of the places you are posting about.Welcome to this forum! About your Beemer project.....sounds like a bunch of work and wish you the best of luck on it. I just wanted to say one thing.......glad its the bike and not one of your family members. Again...welcome to the forum.

You have some great resources down there., as one of the forum members Burwell lives down there and is fixing tons of Hondas with a couple of other cool guys. I think they are near the 9th. I have not seen the new place yet, but iffun ya need info I will pass it along.
