Good day gents!
My name is Abdu, though friends call me Abbi
. I'm an ME Major from Southern California that has spent most of my mechanical-hobby time working on my '91 BMW E30 that I turbocharged.
With the help and advice of two good mates, I purchased a '77 CB550f that runs damn well in stock configuration.
It's a little dirty around the edges with some surface rust on the tank, but these are all secondary to me considering aesthetics come after maintenance.
I've owned manual transmission cars all my life and have BMX'd/Trailridden for around 5 years when I had time so I had a general foundation of how to operate a motorcycle even though I've never ridden one.
I was super surprised at how quick and natural I felt on the CB from day one and my two buds say that I looked pretty natural, so that was a bit of a confidence booster (I've only ridden it when they are there to ride with me on their bikes). So nothing more than but to get more seat time under my belt for now.
..Anyways! Here's the sucker in all it's fine running glory:
The day we picked it up, thanks Mike and Trey
My plan for this bike is to most importantly become familiar with it and take care of maintanence before I start dressing her.
In time, I would like to clean it up and do OEM+ type upgrades to it such as replace tired items, brighter/LED's(?) for safety, slightly lower bars, and paint the tank, but for now I'm stoked one how well it kicks on, runs, and rips through the RPM without a hiccup so it's just cruising and learning at this point as mentioned previously.
Enjoying the little time I've spent so far on this site with all the information that is available. It's found a bookmark on my toolbar for certain.
Happy riding.
Here are some pictures of my other little project in case anyone is into that sort of thing:
