1977 Honda CB750F Airbox Alignment
« on: March 27, 2016, 05:16:15 PM »
I'm working on a 1977 CB750F and am puzzled by an airbox alignment issue.

The right hand side of the airbox bolts sweetly to the top frame rail.   Things align nicely on the right.

Moving to the left end of the airbox, the airbox mount is about 1/2 inched behind the tab on the frame rail.  All of the boots (carb to head, and box to carb mouth) look like they are fully home.

I know Hondas fit better than this, so I'm surely missing something.

Thanks guys.

Maybe folded one of the inside boots (cylinder 2 or 3), so it's fighting against the airbox.

Have any pictures?
Maybe a more experienced eye can catch something that is off.

Do you have all 4 of the boots from the box to the carbs mounted flush with the box and angled downwards?
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

+1, and all of the carb to airbox boot 'tabs' are rotated upward

Are the carbs seated all the way into the intake rubbers?

Thanks guys.  Those all seem to be great tips.

I think the boots are generally a mess and haphazard, from a previous owner.  It's still cold around here, and the boots are likely the originals.  So everything is stiff to say the least.

My guess is that these carbs will need cleaning. so I might as well buckle down and yank them off, and set it up correctly as per your good suggestions.

If you take the carbs off to clean, you may as well buy some new airbox rubbers - they are cheap and new ones make installing the airbox a snap.
